Understand Etihad pet policy and get ready to avoid all the hassle when traveling with your pet. Note that Etihad does not allow pets to travel as checked baggage however, you can book them to travel as cargo. In this article, you will get information on the dimensions allowed for in-cabin and cargo pet travel, required documents for Etihad pets, and so on.
According to Etihad pet policy, you can bring pets in the cabin but not as checked baggage. They only provide checked baggage service for falcons and no other animals. But you can fly them in the cargo hold. The temperature and the pressure in the cargo hold are maintained. There are pet charges but differ as per class type. Under the rules of Etihad pet policy, charges also differ depending on whether you want to buy an extra seat for the pet, want to fly them as cargo, or want to place the carrier under the seat in front of you in the cabin.

The dimensions of the pet carrier differ as per your ticket type. When you buy an extra seat (in case of the economy class) for your pet which is allowed, below given dimensions are not the limit for you. Take a look below for the maximum dimensions allowed per Etihad pet policy:
Please note that the total weight of your pet along with its carrier should not be more than 8 kg i.e. 17.6 pounds and your pet must be at least 16 weeks old. According to Etihad pet policy, you need to provide a health certificate for your pet, and your pet should be in good and healthy condition and accompanied by a human aged 18 or older.
According to Etihad Airways pet policy, your pet can be transported in the cargo compartment of their aircraft. If your pet travels in the cargo compartment, it must be in an IATA-compliant pet crate as per Etihad pets on board rules. Etihad Airways will demand a recent health certificate stating that your pet is healthy enough to travel, free of diseases communicable to people, and adequately vaccinated, particularly if traveling in the cargo portion of the aircraft. As per Etihad pet policy, your veterinarian must complete the certificate within ten days of travel.
The area of the cargo department is at the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin. To be sure you can Inform the Captain of the airplane that your pet is flying in the cargo hold so that they can ensure that the temperature is maintained at the appropriate level. Note that as per Etihad pets on board rules, when runway temperatures exceed 84°F (29°C) at the origin, layover, or destination airports, Etihad Airways may refuse to board your pet in the cargo hold. This limitation is for the safety of the pet.
The charges for Etihad Pets differ depending on the duration of the flight. The cost of journeys under 6 hours is USD 150. The cost for more than six hours is USD 250. According to Etihad pet policy, the cost also changes as per the ticket type and it is as follows:
Economy: $200 or 29,000 Etihad Guest Miles (one way). If you wish to book an adjacent seat, Etihad’s normal fares will apply. Make sure to book in advance for your pet as airlines have a first come first basis for pet reservations.
Business: In business class, you have to book an extra for your pet in advance.
Service dogs supporting disabled people are welcome in the cabin at no cost. They should be harnessed and leashed. They cannot infringe on other passengers or the aisle. One service animal is allowed per passenger. On flights to and from the US, two assistance dogs are permitted. According to Etihad pet policy, there are certain forms to be filled out for service pets at least 72 hours before travel.
For in-cabin, you should get a soft-sided bag and for cargo hold, it is suggested to get a hard kennel. As per Etihad pet policy, the dimensions allowed are different for different classes, and you will be charged a regular fare for a seat if you are booking one for your pet.
You must fill out a booking form at least seven days in advance and transmit any necessary supporting documents no later than 72 hours before your journey. If you are flying to Abu Dhabi, you must additionally obtain a UAE Health Certificate. Within five days of your flight, a government-accredited health official in your country of departure must sign and seal this form per Etihad pet policy.
As per Etihad pets on board rules, if your final destination is Abu Dhabi, you must also apply for a pet release permission before your travel. Remember to carry all of your pet's original documentation for verification at the airport. Your pet will not be allowed to fly otherwise.
