Iberia allows pets like dogs, cats, fish, turtles, and domesticated birds, but it does not enable weasels, ferrets, pine martens, etc., to be on board. Any that is too large to fit in the space under the seat in front of you then will have to be checked or sent as cargo. As per Iberia Airlines pet policy, you can carry more than one pet in one carrier provided they are lightweight, of compatible species, and fall under the stated weight limitations.

Passengers with pets are not allowed to sit at the seat next to the emergency exit.

Iberia Airlines Pet in the Cabin

Iberia allows dogs, cats, fish, turtles, and domesticated birds in the cabin. If you are bringing your kitten or puppy on the flight, note that it must be weaned from its mother and must be at least 8 weeks of age. As per Iberia's pet policy, 

  • The maximum weight allowed for the pet as a carry-on is 8 kg (17.6 pounds). and 
  • The maximum dimension of the carrier should be not more than 45 cm long, 35 cm wide, and 25 cm high, which is 105 cm in total.

Keep in mind that if you are bringing a bird, its carrier must be strong, have a secure lock, and must be covered all the time. You can keep food and drink in the cage, provided they will not get spilled. 

Iberia Airlines' Pet Policy for Checked Baggage

Your pet must be 6 months or older to use the service of checked baggage and should weigh no more than 14 kg. Two compatible animals can be kept together in one carrier provided they are compatible and do not outweigh the stated limitations. 

Carrier Requirement for Pets Traveling in Cargo Hold

According to Iberia pet policy below are the cage requirements given for pets traveling in the cargo hold:

  1. Iberia allows the transport of dogs and cats in the hold, with the exclusion of brachycephalic animals and dangerous breeds.
  2. The crate must be built of strong material and have a secure locking mechanism to keep it closed at all times.
  3. It must be suitable for the animal's size, allowing it to stand in a natural stance, turn around, and lie down.
  4. As stated by Iberia pet policy, there is no exterior or interior damage that could injure your pet, and there is adequate ventilation.
  5. To avoid direct contact between the base and the aircraft floor, the bottom must be watertight and covered with a cushioning material or insulating layer.

Iberia dog policy

Medically Certified Services Animals can only be dogs and may join their owners in the cabin for no charge, as long as they do not disturb or interfere with other passengers as per Iberia dog policy. According to Iberia pet policy, they should always wear their ID tags and vests. 

As for the emotional support dogs, they are only allowed to be brought on flights to the United States. A form must be filled out, along with a letter from a doctor or licensed medical official. Please understand that even if it is a service dog or emotional support dog if its weight is more than 20 kg, it has to be transported in the cargo hold free of charge.
