Lufthansa Pet Policy and Fees




Explore the world with your beloved pet and create a special memory with them. Lufthansa's pet policy allows pets on the flight. However, you may travel with your service animals in the cabin class. Lufthansa Airlines' Pet in-cabin Policy

Lufthansa Airlines welcomes small pets on their flight. As per the Lufthansa pet policy, only small cats and dogs are entitled to travel in cabin class Your pet's weight should not be more than 17.6lb or 8kg, including the pet container. Airlines apply pet travel reservation charges of approximately 67.46 euros if your flight is within Europe. In comparison, pet reservation charges will apply to you at approximately 112.44 euros if you visit an international destination. Your lovely pet's age should be up to 12 weeks. 

Pet Travel as — Checked Baggage 

Lufthansa Airlines will consider your pet a piece of checked baggage if its weight exceeds the cabin class requirements. Rabbits may also travel as checked baggage. As per the Lufthansa Airlines pet policy, you may carry only one pet carry as checked baggage. Pets are allowed on flights, but it is subject to space availability. At the airport, you will have to check in at least 2-3 hours before your planned departure. Airlines will not accept Snub-Nosed breeds on the flight. You will need to bring your pet's health certificate.  

What are the pet carrier requirements?

As per the Lufthansa pet carrier requirements, you must meet the terms and conditions of pet carrier requirements. 

  • The airline allows you to carry your pet as checked baggage, but the container's size must not exceed 125 × 75 × 85 cm.
  • Whereas the pet carrier size should not be more than 55 x 40 x 23cm if the pet travels in the cabin class. 
  • The pet container must be made of the best quality of plastic. 
  • Ventilation holes should be on all sides of the pet carrier. 
  • The pet carrier must be leakproof.    

How do you travel with a service animal on Lufthansa Airlines?

Lufthansa Airlines treats trained animals as service animals. Airlines allow up to two service dogs in the cabin class with their passengers. The airline does not apply a pet reservation fee to the service animals. Under the training, animals are not eligible to fly in cabin class as per the pet policy of Lufthansa Airlines. To make a service animal reservation, you will have to complete a document work. At least two days before your scheduled departure, you must send a pet reservation request to the airline or visit the airport directly. You cannot travel with your service dog without filling out the DOT service animal transport form. Lufthansa Pet Reservation Fee  

Lufthansa Airlines charges a pet reservation fee that applies to all passengers who travel with their pets. If you carry your pet in cabin class to meet the cabin class requirements, the pet fee will apply between 50 and 110 Euros. Whereas if a pet travels as checked baggage, then charges will apply between 80 and 300 Euros, depending on the pet container size and destinations.  

Does Lufthansa Airlines allow emotional support animals on flights? 

Currently, Lufthansa Airlines does not accept emotional support animals on flights. In certain conditions, you may travel with your emotional support pet, but you will have to meet the terms and conditions. To make an emotional support pet reservation, you will have to connect with the Lufthansa customer care team. You will be required to submit a pet medical report, which should be issued at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure. You will have to bring a copy of your pet reservation approval. At the check-in time, you will have to submit.          

Can I travel with a snub-nosed pet on Lufthansa Airlines?

Due to medical reasons, Lufthansa Airlines' pet policy does not allow snub-nosed pets on the flight. These pets have small noses, so they can not breathe easily on the flight. Under certain conditions, you may bring your Snub-Nosed pet on the flight. Depending on its size, the airline will decide whether your pet is eligible to travel in cabin class.
